An Exhortation : How to endure and enjoy when praying in the Spirit?

Prepared by : Rodriggs

Text: James 4:7-10

Objectives:

To prevail in prayer while in travail.

To develop the daily habit of prayer in humility.

Introduction:

Some prayer days are needing to travail especially when we are in spiritual warfare or we sense some demonic activities hindering our prayer. We need spiritual strength more than physical energy to prevail in prayer. I encourage you to see How Awesome our God is in this kind of prayer.

Paul said that between heaven and earth there are high places where principalities in the air and spiritual wickedness dwell to hinder our prayer line. We should stand firm to rebuke them and at the same time see the good results in our prayers. We need to endure and enjoy the fruits of our prayers.

How to endure in praying in the Spirit?

James 4:7-10.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

These verses have told to us four things to do.

1. Verse 7 Submit to God. He is the Highest authority over all His creation. Resist the devil and he will flee when we are submitted to God.

2. Verse 8 Draw near to God means to repent and be cleansed from sins then purify your heart and trust God.

3. Verse 9 The Israelites in the OT usually do fasting to show repentance in their mourning and weeping while putting ashes and wearing sackcloth. Genesis 37:34/Joel 1:13/Job16:15/ Nehemiah 9:1. James is simply telling here to repent from sins.

4. Humble yourself unto God and He shall lift you up. Humility will purify the heart and when the Lord see that genuine meekness in your heart, He will lift you up and you will enjoy His Presence again.

Every time the people of Israel walked with other gods, they lost in battles and the Lord will require them to draw near again and to repent from their sins. The Lord will forgive them and will restore them. This is the recurring cycle in their history as a nation of God.

Now that we have learned that we are like the Israelites for we are called to be God’s people in the New Testament and we are facing battles in the spiritual realm. Most of the time the battles are indication of our involvement into something that the devil have the right to take hold of you. You have to check your spiritual condition and only God can tell you that if you are continuing into sins.

Trust the Almighthy God who is more powerful than the devil and his cohorst. But you have to submit unto Him and let the Lord correct you from a particular sin you harbor in your heart then humble yourself before God.

Three steps to train your heart to be humbled before God.

To have a humble heart means to submit your will to the will of God.

To have a humble heart means you are easily be corrected and yielded to the voice of God.

To have a humble heart means you are ready to obey and trust God in His way and not your own way.

Jesus told us that the humble and meek shall inherit the earth.

It means that we shall have peace and the fruit of peace which is success because we do the will of God here on earth.

God bless you with a humble heart and enjoy the peace of God in your heart as well.
