Prepared by: Rodriggs Cyrus
Text: 1Peter 5:5-6/ Colossians 3:12/ Psalm 69:32/ Proverbs 22:4
To serve the Lord our God in the humility of Christ.
Clothe ourselves with humility of Christ, pursue in love and maintain excellent spirit are among the many lessons we received from the disciples of Jesus. The Old Testament books featured some men of God clothed in humility and obedience with God. Why is it so important to walk with God in a humble heart? Allow this outline to see why God is looking for a humble vessel to do His will and why the Lord resists the proud (James 4:6)
The Humble Servants of God
Abraham – Genesis 18:27,32
Jacob – Genesis 32:10
Moses – Exodus 3:11
Joshua – Joshua 7:6
David – 1 Samuel 18:18-23/ 2 Samuel 27/ Psalm 51
Job – Job 42:2-6
Jeremiah – Jeremiah 1:6
Daniel – Daniel 2:30
Elizabeth – Luke 1:43
Mary – Luke 1:46-55
John the Baptist – John 3:29,30
Paul – Acts 20: 19
Note: Actually those men of God from the Bible required by God to walk with Him in meekness, (Micah 6:8) even our Lord Jesus Christ being in the form of God, humbled himself took the form of a servant. (Philippians 2: 5-10) I would like to define meekness or humility through the lives of these men above and see how they were called humble servants of God in their? time.
Different Faces of Humility
Humility is surrendering of our will to the will of God. (Jesus-Matthew 26:39,42)
Humility is accepting of our limitation and subjecting it to God to take over (Moses-Exodus 3:11 ; Numbers 12:3 /Jeremiah – Jeremiah 1:6)
Humility is relying on the Spirit of God for God strength – (David -Psalm 51)
Humility is to increase God and decrease ourselves (John the Baptist- John 3:29-30)
Humility is lowliness of mind. (Jesus – Matthew 11:29)
Humility is act of brokenness and repentance. (Job 42:2-6/ Joshua 7:6)
Humility gives credits to God and not to himself. (Daniel 2)
Humility or meekness is an avenue to speak the Word of the Lord and His great plan. The meek will speak the Glory of God. (Elizabeth and Mary Luke 1)( Elijah and Elisha – 1 and 2 Kings)
Humility is brokenness of the heart, submitting himself to God even in midst of difficulties and trials ( Paul – Acts 20:19)
What the Bible say about the proud in heart?
1 Peter 5:5-6 God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble…
Luke 14:11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled….
Proverbs 18:12 destruction for the haughty in heart.
Humility is always attached to servanthood so we cannot follow and serve God in a proud spirit. One must be humbled in order to please God and walk in His ways. Only God can see the heart of men and He is calling for a true humility in the heart of men. This is what I realized the will of man which is the core of his soul must be surrendered to God first, and the rest will be the work of God to renew his heart one day at a time to become His humble and meek servant. Blessed are those who walk in the humility of Christ in due time they will be exalted. (1Peter 5:5-6)
