Ephesians 6:18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. … And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”.
James 5:16, NIV: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Mobilize the people of God to pray, intercede and do spiritual warfare to let God be God in His sovereign will and purpose in this time of global pandemic.
Let us review our definition of prayer.
We define prayer as:
Prayer is an intimate communion with God. We speak to God and in return, God will speak to us, so we can also say that, prayer is fellowshipping with God. Never leave your prayer room without Him speaking His messages to us. When we say communion, its a two way intertwined communication between God and the one who prays.
Prayer is a gateway for the privileged children of God, to experience the supernatural power of God and God’s intervention in our daily walk with Him, even during the times of adversity, attacks of the devil and in times of uncertainty wherein God will miraculously unfold His will to save and preserve His people.
II. What is prayer to you?
Here are some answers that I gathered from other prayer warriors.
Prayer is submitting your will to God.
Prayer is asking God to supply all your needs.
Praying is asking for spiritual strength especially during adversity.
Prayer is warfare too against the forces of evil.
Prayer is asking for the guiding wisdom of God in our life journey.
III. Why we need to pray ?
From the texts given above, we can answer this question.
1. We are commanded to pray and give thanks at all times in the Spirit, for supplication and other ways where prayer will create an avenue for God’s power to be manifested on earth as it is in heaven.
2. We have to pray the prayer of faith for healing and for the forgiveness of sins of one another.
3. Rejoicing, praying and thanksgiving, are activities to “do” the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
4. Prayer is powerful and effective, therefore, we should submit to God and let His power showcase against the works of the evil one.
IV. What is the true Power of Prayer?
The word power in Greek is “Dunamis” and “Exousia” . The Greek word “dunamis” is used 120 times in the New Testament. Loosely, this word means strength, power, and ability. It is the root of our English words, dynamite, dynamo, and dynamic. Quite often dunamis is not just any power.
Exousia is the word used for authority and also means privilege, force, mastery, token of control, delegated influence, jurisdiction, and so on.
In prayer, we execute the “exousia” the authority or the privilege to ask from God for the “Dunamis” power of God to manifest in the given situation you are praying for God’s intervention.
Well, now you must understand what dunamis is. This Greek word did not apply to human power. At the very least it’s not about physical power. Dunamis is a description of the supernatural miraculous, healing power of God.
V. How do we get Dunamis power?
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 2:1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
The Holy Spirit of God that is in us, not only carries the power of God. He is the power of God.
Luke 10:19 – I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
What a great privilege, we have this authority but the big question is, Do we exercise this power and authority?
In Prayer, we have this opportunity. Everyday we are commission by God to pray because it is essential to abort the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 5:16 – “The days are evil” and we need God’s protection for no one is able to stand the wiles of the devil by himself alone. But here is the goodnews … God is on our side or God is with us. Who can be against us. (Romans 8: 31-39) God must rule over all the earth and we are the vessels of God to do it.
